How did you get into the insurance industry?

I took an insurance-specific class my senior year of college, which sparked my interest initially. My mother (Beth) had been in the industry for years, so I had a pretty good sense of what an insurance career looked like from an agent standpoint. I started my insurance career with a direct writer. Fast forward several years,  and I joined my mother to build our own agency. 

What advice would you give to young people considering an insurance career?

Never pass up an opportunity to learn from a mentor or take a class on furthering your education. Secondly, persistence is key. Never give up on a prospect.

How should the industry attract new talent?

As the industry continues to modernize, there will be new ways we conduct business. Most young talent have an advantage in optimizing how we use technology. I think creating more remote jobs will definitely attract new talent, especially since younger professionals are tech-savvy.

What part of your job do you like the best?

I enjoy helping people. There is a level of satisfaction and pride that comes with going the extra mile to ensure my clients’ needs are met.

What coverage should more people have?

The recent demand for building materials in addition to the labor shortages we are experiencing have resulted in higher reconstruction costs. Now more than ever, it’s imperative to have an annual review of property coverages to ensure there is adequate coverage in place.
